Justice delayed - Mondelez Egypt lawyers appeal and delay sacked union leaders' legal hearings, cut off medical benefits 24-09-2013
In response to allegations of human rights abuses and union-busting in Egypt, Mondelez has publicly stated that the cases of the five dismissed Cadbury Alexandria union leaders are in the courts and they are "awaiting the Tribunal's decision". At the Tribunal, however, where the company is seeking legal sanction for their dismissals, the court has decided in favour of one of the dismissed union leaders. So company lawyers have appealed the decision, and are working hard to delay procedures in the other four cases.
Some 60 housekeeping staff and valets at Paris prestigious Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme Hotel went on strike and took to the streets Friday under the banner: "The class war starts here."

Members of the IUF-affiliated Comisiones Obreras organized a strike on September 16 in front of Hotel Mercure Plaza de España to protest mass layoffs in the housekeeping department.
With great sadness the IUF has learned of the death on September 16 of the general secretary of Ivory Coast's national trade union center Dignité, Basile Mahan Gahé. Dignité was founded in 1988 and led the fight for trade union independence and pluralism in Ivory Coast, for which the organization and its members often faced violent repression.
