Danish Crown shuts down UK factory after only 38 days of ownership

Printer-friendly version

On Monday, March 6, just 38 days after taking over the Tranfoods meat packing facility in Birkenhead (UK), Danish Crown's UK subsidiary, Tulip, shut down the factory without notice, leaving over 200 workers out on the street.

Their union, UNITE, reports that management is threatening to pay only the statutory minimum redundancy to the 218 workers who are likely to lose their jobs.

UNITE will be demanding that the firm honours a previous commitment to an enhanced redundancy package offered to former Tranfoods workers.
