Swiss Unia wins 5-year battle with Domino's Pizza

Printer-friendly version

The IUF- affiliated Unia has won a major victory in its 5-year fight for the rights of 14 Domino's Pizza workers in Geneva. Unia has successfully established that home-delivery restaurants were covered under the national hotel/restaurant agreement and revealed the scandalous working conditions at Domino's.

An out-of-court settlement with the Luxembourg investment fund which owned the franchise until recently brings compensation of up to CHF 360,000 for these workers - with more possible later depending on the new franchise owners' financial results.  Violations of the agreement included underpayment of wages, excessive hours and lack of compensation for overtime, safety violations and charging workers for uniform and transport upkeep.

Unia is now seeking to negotiate an agreement ensuring respect for union rights at Domino's Geneva and eventually across Switzerland.

US-based Domino's pizza has over 10,000 owned or franchised stores in 70 countries with approximately 180,000 employees.
