Disneyland Hotel Workers Hold 9-Day Hunger Strike

Printer-friendly version

Last Thursday, Disneyland hotel workers broke a nine-day hunger strike that included camping out for seven days on the streets of Anaheim and another two-and-a-half days at Disney corporate headquarters in Burbank. The hunger strike, which brought attention to Disney's unaffordable healthcare proposals, workload increases and injuries, involved 15 different fasters, all members of UNITE HERE Local 11.

The fasting workers staged daily events from picket lines and rallies to a meet-and-greet with elected leaders and a performance by Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine. The first group of fasting workers broke their hunger strike at a rally with hundreds of co-workers, community supporters, and UNITE HERE President John Wilhelm.

To read more about the hunger strike, including the profiles and blog diaries of the fasters, go to the "Disney is unfaithful" website.
