Urgent Action 'Beautiful and absolutely secured'.. against unions - mass firings in response to union formation at Sheraton's upscale Algerian resort hotel 23-10-2011
The only 5-star resort in Algeria, the luxury Sheraton Club des Pins in the capital Algiers invites the visitor to "reenergize at our pools and steam room before dining in our bayfront restaurants." Workers at the hotel have recently learned that 'absolutely secure' can mean secure against unions. Hundreds of employees who recently tried to form a union according to the legal procedure now find themselves out of work, victims of mass firings which have emptied the hotel of experienced personnel.
Vitasoy Australia Workers and NUW win 19-10-2011
Following two 24-hours strikes organised by the Vitasoy workers under NUW membership at the factory in Wodonga, Victoria, the union reached an agreement with the company on October 14. VITASOY factory workers accepted the new collective bargaining agreement after their union NUW gained some important benefits and rights from management. These gains included:

Vitasoy Australia Workers Take Industrial Action 04-10-2011
Following a strike vote in which the NUW membership at Vitasoy Australia voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action, NUW members went out on strike for 24 hours on Friday, 30 September. They will organize further rolling industrial action the following weeks.
Poland : Coca-Cola workers organise 01-10-2011
IUF affiliate Solidarnosc has successfully run an organising initiative among the workers in Coca-Cola Radzymin near Warsaw, Poland. More than 100 workers out of a workforce of close to 300 joined the new union local, more than doubling the number of union members in the country, where previously smaller locals existed only in the factory in Lodz and a distribution center in Gdynia.
Settlement ends long strike at New York Boathouse Restaurant 29-09-2011
The bitter conflict at the Boathouse Restaurant in New York City's Central Park ended on September 22 when Local 6 and the New York Hotel Trades Council settled the issues leading to the 44-day strike. After fighting the workers' effort to organize for months, the Boathouse agreed to recognize the union and reinstate all fired union supporters.
Week of strikes at Hyatt USA 28-09-2011
September 14 marked the final day of weeklong strikes by UNITE HERE members at Hyatt hotels in Honolulu, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, with each local union holding large actions with hundreds of workers on the picket lines.
Jamaican union wins reinstatement of dismissed Iberostar hotel workers 28-09-2011
Jamaica's University and Allied Workers' Union has won reinstatement for over 360 Iberostar employees dismissed in August 2009 for alleged reasons of redundancy.
