Alliance of Coca-Cola Unions Philippines (ACCUP) rolls back casualization

In a meeting between Coca-Cola Philippines Bottlers Inc. (CCBPI) management and the IUF-affiliated Alliance of Coca-Cola Unions Philippines (ACCUP) on 14 June, the company committed to 741 new permanent jobs in 2012. This will be the first step in reversing more than a decade of outsourcing and casualization that destroyed permanent jobs and drastically reduced union membership in 19 bottling plants and distribution centres across the country.

Strike brings gains for Fonterra Chile dairy workers

Nearly two weeks after launching an unlimited strike at the Prolesur dairy plant in Osorno, Chile, 120 members of the Chilean Federation of Dairy Company Workers' Unions (FENATRAL) have won a collective agreement bringing substantial gains in wages and benefits. Prolesur is a subsidiary of Soprole, Chile's largest dairy company, which is 99.8% owned by New Zealand-based Fonterra.

Thanks to the courage of the housekeeper at the Sofitel New York, a curtain has been pulled back on the world of sexual misconduct that housekeepers sometimes face from guests. Inspired by her stand, more housekeepers are coming forward to share their own stories and launch a campaign to break the silence about the routine sexual misconduct and other forms of abuse that housekeepers face at work.

IUF calls on global hotel chains to disclose policies on sexual harassment of staff by guests

Following the recent highly publicized events at the Sofitel New York, the IUF has written to major international hotel operators, including Intercontinental, Wyndham Hotels, Marriott, Hilton, Accor, Hyatt,  Rezidor, Starwood, Carlson Hotels, and Melia to highlight the vulnerable situation of hotel housekeepers.
