OHS Code update

Work continues to develop a new ILO code of practice on safety and health in agriculture.

From November 23 - December 1, 2009 occupational health and safety (OHS) experts from 8 IUF affiliated trade unions took part in a tripartite meeting to work on over 200 pages of draft text prepared by the ILO. The aim was to develop a comprehensive workplace guide to complement ILO Convention 184 on safety and health in agriculture. The process now is that the ILO will revise the draft based on the discussion in the expert meetings.

A new text will be issued in March 2010. Work on this will continue by email and later in the year it will be decide if a second experts meeting will be need to adopt the Code.
