Mondelez looks to boost gum sales while stuck in the swamp of human rights abuses

Printer-friendly version

“We’re not sitting by and accepting dismal gum sales” says Mondelez CEO Irene Rosenfeld while refusing to acknowledge the human rights abuses when 5 union leaders were dismissed from its chewing gum factory in Alexandria, Egypt.“The IUF is not sitting by and accepting the arbitrary dismissal of union leaders for exercising their rights” says IUF General Secretary Ron Oswald.

The IUF will stick to the task like chewing gum to a shoe until the dismissed workers get justice and Mondelez respects the universal rights of its employees.

Meanwhile Rosenfeld acknowledges the rumors about a merger with Pepsico which could ‘unlock additional value for shareholders’.  If a merger occurs, the IUF will hold the new company to account for remedying past injustices.
