PepsiCo Lays Workers Action Committee members in West Bengal received solidarity funds from IUF affiliated National Union of Workers (NUW) members at Smith's. It was very much appreciated both in terms of lifting their spirits with the feeling of international solidarity and in overcoming immediate economic hardship.

Earlier this year 162 workers out of 170 employed in three warehouses exclusively contracted by PepsiCo in West Bengal organized a union and submitted their demands. They were harassed, assaulted by company goons and then brutally fired. In May 2013, they were allowed to return to work, but under conditions that strip them of their human rights.

In June 2013, PepsiCo Russia workers from warehouse, logistics and sales centre in Domodedovo (Moscow region) decided to unite and create a union to defend their rights and fight for fair conditions. The union joined the IUF-affiliated NOVOPROF and represents sales agents, merchandisers, truck drivers and forklift truck drivers.

Four months after their mass termination for joining a union at two warehouses operated for PepsiCo India by Radhakrishna Foodlands (RKFL) the majority of the 162 workers have been forced to return to work under conditions that strip them of their human rights.

On July 27, solidarity actions were held at the Pepsico Frito-Lays plant in Sangrur, Punjab, India,  in support of the fight against union-busting at West Bengal warehouses exclusively contracted by PepsiCo.

185 union members of PepsiCo India Holding workers union (AITUC) in 2 shifts joined the solidarity action sending a strong message to Pepsico India management to ensure its supplier Radhakrishna immediately reinstates 162 workers terminated for organizing and joining a union.

Activist shareholder Nelson Peltz dialed up pressure on PepsiCo Inc, saying it should buy Mondelez International Inc for more than $62 billion and spin off its soft drink business.

Peltz, a force behind some of the global food industry's biggest deals, finally laid out his vision for what would be a snack food powerhouse, three months after reporting ownership stakes in each company that sparked rampant Wall Street speculation.

Pepsi-Cola is still using caramel coloring containing a chemical linked to cancer in rodents, a report released on Wednesday showed, more than a year after the beverage maker promised to phase it out.

The Center for Environmental Health said that PepsiCo Inc. lagged its rival Coca-Cola in removing the chemical, called 4-methylimidazole, or 4-MI.
